Beating of the Bound on Ascension Day
Join us at 5:00 p.m., before our Ascension service, for Beating of the Bounds.
Beating the bounds, also known as perambulation, is a centuries-old custom originating in England and Wales, dating back before the Norman Conquest. The practice was designed to maintain a shared mental map of parish boundaries, which was crucial in times when maps were rare. Knowledge of these boundaries ensured clarity over responsibilities such as church repairs and burial rights. Traditionally, the event took place on Ascension Day.
This is great activity for all ages to walk our church boundary, pray, sing songs and make mental notes of our property we have been blessed with and are responsible for.
