The Stations of the Cross have their origins in the 2nd century, when Christians would visit the Holy Land to walk the same steps Jesus did on his way to the Cross, stopping at various places to pray and meditate. Years later, these 14 Stations were created, so those unable to visit Jerusalem could still make a spiritual pilgrimage.
